Seahawks No Longer The Underdogs

After following the Seattle Seahawks since 1976 this is the first time in my memory that we are considered to be the best team in the NFL. Of course it took 38 years, a great coach and a team led both on and off the field by the best young quarterback in the league, and oh ya a firm thrashing of the New Orleans Saints last night 34-7 on MNF in front of the whole nation. Every where I turned today in the National media pundits and wanna be experts we’re falling all over themselves to jump on the bandwagon today after Drew Brees and company took it on the chin last night at Century 21 field.

This is a new feeling that I kind of like though it’s kind of odd at first, but yes folks we are finally on the map in the NFL after so many years of losing or close calls by the teams in the 80′s and the 2005 squad who went all the way to the Super bowl in Detroit before getting robbed of a National title. Of course the haters are still out there lingering and with the upcoming 49ers game this Sunday I’m sure that we will have some of these same pundits and experts jump off the bandwagon later in the week and pick the 49ers who are already apparently 2 1/2 point favorites down at Candlestick this Sunday…

On another note I wanted to let everyone know that I did not get in to the game last night for a couple of reasons. 1: I’m saving my money for the Super Bowl, 2: I refuse to pay over $150 bucks for a regular season game unless I’m on the 100 level and 3: just as the prices we’re starting to drop about 5 minutes into the 1st quarter last night, the word started to spread that there we’re some fake tickets being sold by a couple of dudes so I went with the ” Audible” and punted and went into a nice bar right across from Safeco and watched the game there for free.

I did manage to mix it up with a lot of fans both before and after the game and I even almost got into a fight with a mouthy Saints fan at the old ” New Orleans” restaurant in Pioneer Square. Apparently he did not like my ” Fremont the Left Wing of The 12th Man ” sign and asked me to take it off. This of course led to a quick comeback from me about the Civil War and before things got to far this sore Loser got up and left. Who knows he could have been a cop or maybe he went down to the Saints plane and spent the night on the tarmac dreaming of gumbo with his hero Drew Brees….

So now it is back to SF to finish the 8-4 49ers off next weekend. I’m sure that Pete Carroll and the boys are already fast at work getting ready for this game, but for myself I’m enjoying being #1 and writing goofy posts like this and calling in to East Coast Sports channels like Mad Dog Sports on Sirius Radio, join me there we need reinforcements as there are very few Seattle based callers…. Go Hawks!
