The Mariners lost 3-1 last night to the visiting Braves on a gloomy June day that will soon be forgotten. Before long the Mariners PR machine will be rolling-out another gimmick or bobble-head night to pacify the locals and try to avoid dealing with the awkward situation we are in. On the one hand this season has been fun and interesting so far which I am grateful for. But realistically I know in my gut that the great starting pitching cannot hold this ship together by itself for much longer.
Having suffered through multiple decades of watching Howard Lincoln and Chuck Armstrong operate I can say that I am not holding my breath for the magical “Big Bat” deal to come together anytime soon. Our mystical majority absentee owner Hiroshi Yamauchi also has little interest in this club and his mouthpiece Howard Lincoln surely distorts the truth of what is really happening here in Seattle so he can keep his post as the gatekeeper to the throne with all the perks and privilege his cushy job provides.
It is a shame to waste such a good start and possibly the goodwill of the local fans who have started to dream and hope again this year, but unless something is done in the way of a trade or two soon, it looks like our skipper Eric Wedge will get stuck with “bringing a knife to a gunfight” for the rest of the 2011 voyage. Yes just another gloomy day in June in Seattle…..Go M’shttp://jeffsmariners.com
