Did Jay-Z Just Make Seattle a Ho for Robinson Cano?

Robinson Cano and Jay-Z Celebrating

The city of Seattle has been in the news all week after our Seahawks thrashed the New Orleans Saints, so when I heard the news this morning that the lowly Mariners had actually signed Robinson Cano I was shocked, and still am….

Robinson Cano pictured above living the good life with his high-profile Jay-Z and his Roc Nation Sports agency must indeed be celebrating tonight after somehow squeezing a 10-year $ deal out of the old miser Howard Lincoln himself following a late night bargaining session  here in Seattle. I did hear that Lincoln balked at paying $252 million for Seattle’s newest Superstar and managed to come up with the compromise figure of…. Gulp…$240 million…So perhaps Howard Lincoln is going to finally shed his image as the Grinch here in Seattle with this deal…time will tell but for now I am shocked by the old devil…

As far as Cano goes, I love him as player and look forward to getting 4-5 good years out of the future HOFer, but the last 5 years  of this contract could be brutal being that he was born on October 22, 1982 down in the Dominican Republic. But that is the way it goes if you want to play hardball with the Big Boys and the 5-time All-Star will bring a lifetime .309 batting average to go along with his slick fielding and a power bat that produced 27 dingers last year for the New York Yankees.

I guess what concerns me so much about this deal is that we have been screaming for a big bat or two here for the past 10 years and though Cano is great, he alone won’t be enough and the mariners will have to keep going to bolster this weak lineup with some like Nelson Cruz to protect Cano in the lineup. But with a reported 2 billion dollar deal with Root sports in hand and no contract commitments outside of King Felix to speak of for the next several years old Jack Zduriencik may indeed get a chance to preside over a winning club.

By the way I’m wondering how young Nick Franklin feels about this whole thing? Oh well he had his chance maybe he can split time at short with Miller and Willie Bloomquist or get packaged up and sent somewhere else in the next stage of this “Seattle in The Sports Spotlight Era”  Go Mariners! Go Hawks!http://jeffsmariners.com

How about trader Jack does some of his magic?

Well I liked Franklin but you got to give up something to get something.
    Can he play third base?
Miami needs a 3rd baseman, Seattle needs another stick or 2.
Seattle has a bunch of infielders with talent or potential. And I would not dream of trading Kyle Seager, but how about his college teammate and same draft year partner Dustin Ackley or Nick Franklin for a big bat to be. Justin Smoak hasn’t really worked out. Send him to Miami, too.

Seattle gets power hitting 1st baseman Logan Morrison. Younger player with some pop and left handed bat……………………………. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/morrilo01.shtml are his career stats.
Hell it is not my money I am willing to wheel and deal.
The good news is I think Jack is too

Alan, Im open to wheeling and dealing, whatever it takes to put a winning team on the field. We need another big bat for the outfield and a Big Arm like Price and Ill be Happy….
